Patient Testimonial » Dolores Owens

When long-time New Orleans resident Dolores Owens was diagnosed with Stage 2A breast cancer in 2007, she turned to the experienced physicians at East Jefferson Radiation Oncology. Over the course of about 6 months, Dolores underwent several different treatments at East Jefferson.  Dr. Marcus Black, medical oncologist, delivered her chemotherapy treatment; Dr. Raymond Decorte, surgeon, performed her lumpectomy; and Dr. Paul Monsour, radiation oncologist, administered her radiation therapy.

"I was very pleased with the treatment I received at East Jefferson. The people were just wonderful and perfect! I was in awe of them. They became my extended family while I was there, especially the ladies in the Infusion Center. They were just so friendly, they made me feel so comfortable. I was almost sad to leave when my treatment was over, I just fell in love with all those ladies who treated me, especially Countess. Overall, I was thrilled with the service I received at East Jefferson."

Using what is known as "neoadjuvant chemotherapy" - in other words, upfront chemotherapy -- we were able to shrink Mrs. Owens' tumor and minimize the possibility of spread.  Following her chemo treatment, Dolores underwent a lumpectomy and then radiation therapy as part of a breast-conserving approach.  This allowed her to keep her breast but also enjoy excellent breast cancer control.
